A place for peace: Kaiser’s Throne Corfu

German emperor, Wilhelm II, like many, was in love with Corfu. He did many things in Corfu and that’s why many things are named after the Kaiser. He especially enjoyed going up to the top of Pelekas village and relaxing at the view of Corfu’s beautiful nature and sea. Now it is called Kaiser’s Throne, where everyone can come to enjoy what he did years ago.

Kaiser Wilhelm II

He was Emperor of Germany from 1888 to 1918.  In 1907, he bought the Achilleion Palace in Gastouri from Princess Cici and came for plenty of visits to Pelekas, where Kaiser’s throne in located.  He is also responsible for having the Kaiser’s Bridge built.  A bridge from the Achilleion Palace to the sea.

Pelekas Village

Pelekas is a traditional village on the west side of Corfu.  It is close to Glyfada Beach and Kontogialo Beach. Up in the mountain, Kaisers Throne is at the tip with Levant Hotel right next to it.

As you go down, you reach the main village and narrow streets some big enough for cars other only by donkey! There are a couple of nice restaurants, for instance, Pink Panther, a pizza and pasta place with the sunset view!

Going to the square of the village either in the morning around 10:00-11:00 or in the evening after 19:oo you will be sure to find a mix of old and younger men sitting and chatting as they have been for so many years.
