Agios Georgios Chapel in Vatos, A Panoramic View

Have you heard of Paleokastritsa in Corfu? or how about Sidari? Maybe Kavos? Yes these are the most popular areas on the island. However, maybe you are looking for a more quiet stay on Corfu. A village experience, where you won’t come into tourists so often. Well, this village is just that, continue on reading to get a glimpse of a live like a local experience here in the small village of….

Vatos, Corfu

Vatos in Corfu is mid-west on the side of the mountain.  It is on the side of the mountain facing the east so there are no views of the sea towards the west.  However, it is a small village, with little tourism in the summer.  However, this village has a lot to offer.

First of all, Vatos is dated back to the 16th century on paper, but artifacts have been found that date back way further than that. There is a nice restaurant called Spiros taverna 97 where you can experience some traditional Greek food.

Hiking, beaches and more

There are great hiking trails all around this village.  One of the best leads up to the Chapel of Saint George.  The Chapel is supposively from the middle ages.  There is a loop around the village that you can do that passes by this Chapel.  From you you can also see all around you.  The panoramic view will stun you. One day you will want to come watch the sunrise and you will end up staying to watch the sunset!

There are many trails that lead all around, you can reach some secret beaches and also more well known like Glyfada beach, Mirtiotissa beach and Ermones beach. The hikes are pretty steep so I would definitely suggest to be pretty athletic and to bring a lot of water with you.

Below are all the hiking trails in the area and also how to get to this picture perfect monastery (click on the green cross for this).
